Switch 2 gets new preorder date in late April for US

Nintendo has announced an updated date for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the United States. Originally scheduled for April 9, but delayed by news of tariffs, U.S. pre-orders will now begin on April 24.

The company announced Friday that the console’s price will remain the same as originally announced — $449.99, with a $499.99 version that includes Mario Kart World. Pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will also remain unchanged.

However, per Nintendo’s statement, “Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.”

On Nintendo’s website, the company lists the new suggested retail prices for the Switch 2 and its many accessories:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 – $449.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle – $499.99
  • Mario Kart World – $79.99
  • Donkey Kong Bananza – $69.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair – $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip – $39.99

  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case – $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter – $34.99
  • Samsung microSD Express Card – 256 GB for Nintendo Switch 2 – $59.99

Friday’s update makes slight increases to the prices for Switch 2 accessories. For example, the Joy-Con 2 controllers were originally priced at $89.99, the Charging Grip at $34.99, the strap at $12.99, the wheel at $19.99, the camera at $49.99, and the dock set at $109.99. In sum, accessory prices have each been increased by a range of $5-$10.

Nintendo affirmed that Switch 2’s June 5 launch date in the U.S. and other countries wouldn’t change.

When Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 on April 2, the company said it planned to start pre-orders in many territories the following week. But after U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping, double-digit tariffs on countries like China, Vietnam, and Japan, Nintendo said it was delaying pre-orders in the U.S. (and, later, in Canada) indefinitely while it “assess[ed] the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

In addition to delaying pre-orders, Nintendo has also reportedly earmarked the majority of its supply of Switch 2 consoles manufactured in Vietnam for U.S. customers in order to bypass Trump’s steepest tariffs.
