E3: Geoff Keighleys Summer Game Fest Looks Poised for a Second Run
Here comes the sun.
In many ways, the pandemic turned out to be a blessing in disguise for E3 2020, as the show was sounding like a disaster before lockdown put the event out of its misery. Summer Game Fest, which was created by Geoff Keighley and established as a multi-month industry celebration, was supposed to fill the convention’s space. Ultimately, it delivered a series of mini-livestreams, with some highlights among them: the Unreal Engine 5 showcase offered our first glimpse at PlayStation 5 gameplay, for example.
Many felt that it was drawn out, however, and naturally it couldn’t compete with the overall excitement of a major convention. Nevertheless, it looks like it’ll be making a comeback – the event’s Twitter account has sprung into life, teasing: “New year. New colors.”
