Pac-Man evolves just enough in latest update | The Toledo Blade

The Blade's Will Harrison: Combining pulse-pounding electronic dance music, vibrant colors, and break-neck speed, Championship Edition DX left a mark on the previous generation of consoles as one of the best and most overlooked games on the market. This new Pac-Man iteration isnt as good as what came before but certainly scratches the itch to eat ghosts while watching a game that looks and feels like a psychedelic experience.

ARK Survival Evolved Early Access Preview | PressA2Join

Chris writes, The arid breeze offered little warmth from the blazing sun and so I hugged the coastline as I made my way toward the tower looming on the horizon. Evolve 1.3 Patch Introduces Big Balance Changes

Turtle Rock Studios has announced a new, balance-oriented patch for monster-hunting game Evolve. Patch 1.3, live now on PC and coming next week for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, makes various changes to the game's Monsters and Hunters with the overall aim of creating a better-balanced experience. Specifically, Evolve 1.3 reduces the Wraith's Warp speed by 25 percent, which should make her "less bursty," Turtle Rock explains. Another major change is that DPS for Hyde's Toxic Grenade has been increased by 50 percent. The goal for this change was to make it a more effective area of denial weapon while…

"Playing well as the monster means remaining undetected, sneaking through the environment and eating all the smaller creatures roaming around so you can evolve more quickly. Playing well as a hunter means tracking the prey and trapping them into corners where they can be pelted with bullets until put down. If a game of tennis gets better the longer the rally, the matches of Evolve, which drag on into 20-plus-minute battles of wits between hunters and beast, simply descend into a series of repetitive let's-just-end-this-already mini-fights."

Rhys Egner of FTG: You probably know Turtle Rock Studios as the folks who brought you Left 4 Dead (in collaboration with Valve). While the game largely centered around cooperative play, one of the major draws of the zombie slaughterfest was Versus mode, wherein two teams of four players would play through the games levels, with one team (Survivors) trying to get as far as they can while the other (Infected) play as various zombie types and try to stop them. Vic Bs'Stard writes: 2Ks four vs. one monster hunting game is now out in the wild. I've spent the last few weeks being the hunter and the hunted in Evolve. Evolves developer, Turtle Rock, pretty much invented the concept of narrative-driven co-operative multiplayer game-play with Left 4 Dead. In pitting a group of four players in a drop-in/drop-out zombie apocalypse they created an immediately accessible game that pretty much forced players to work together in order to survive. Heres a game that has been classified as a first-person shooter but brings so many new ideas to the table that the task of categorising it within existing genre archetypes feels futile and crude. Clearly, the motivation here is not to further empower the cynically-held belief that players want more of what they already know a crime that the FPS genre is particularly guilty of popularising. Evolve Review | Good Game

Good Game: "There's just so much that's great about Evolve, so it's a shame that it's all tainted a little by it's high price, especially on PC. Direct from Steam, it's a whopping $79.99 US, and for Australians it's about $100! And that doesn't even include the DLC. I want my multiplayer shooters to have this much polish, but it's just a little light on content for the asking price."

GT: I have to start this review by telling you that I am not a multiplayer fan at all. I constantly seek out single player games that might have some co-op play in them, but when it comes to multiplayer, I very often avoid games that have it as the main focus. When you begin and everything is locked down it's hard to be enthusiastic about it really, however once you open up the other hunters, weapons and the new monsters, things start to get a little more interesting and a lot more exciting. My main worry about Evolve would be how long it can keep your attention for, because it is just essentially a game which either sees you hunt or be hunted, there's not much else to it. There's the core of a great premise here: you can't get much more viscerally primal than dudes going full Neanderthal on a 70ft squid thingie. TJ: The idea behind Evolve is fantastic. Multiplayer games that face humans off against monsters make for fertile creative ground as seen in Left 4 Dead, the Beast Mode of Gears of War, and the online component of criminally forgotten shooter Singularity. Evolve takes this fundamental idea and attempts to run with it, using the hunter vs. beast dynamic as the basis for an entire game and pitting four well-armed hunters against a singular, but potentially devastating, alien creature. CGM: The premise is promising enough. You play as either a member of an elite team of Hunters sent in to track and kill a Monster that has devastated the most valuable colony world, or your play as said Monster and get your shit wrecked. Allow me to elaborate slightly. The player playing the Monster has two victory conditions; kill all hunters, or evolve to a point where youre powerful enough to destroy a power substation in the colony. The hunters simply have to hunt and kill their bounty. Sounds like a great premise for some frantic cat-and-mouse style gameplay, no?

The developer provided play sessions at virtually every gaming convention over the past year, and offered fans extended alpha and beta sessions before release. That "proof is in the pudding" approach revealed the core gameplay experience of Evolve, but also opened the door to questions about its breadth and longevity. Wraith is the third-tier Monster in Evolve, and though the game is intended to be balanced such that no Hunter or Monster is always better than the others, Wraith was almost unstoppable in the final Beta test prior to release. Evolve review | Digital Trends

DT: At its very best, Turtle Rock Studios Evolve channels Bradburys time-traveling story about profoundly wealthy big game hunters on the hunt for a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The author expertly distills the horror of facing down a 14-foot tall, 40-foot long monster with nothing more than a rifle and a warped sense of machismo into one, singular moment. The game makes you feel that sound of thunder when you and three friends track down a level three Goliath in some muddy corner of the planet Shear. Sometimes though unfortunately not often Evolve even lets you feel like youre the one making that sound…

Evolve Review | Cheat Code Central

CCC: One of the most anticipated games from last years E3 was Evolve, the newest project by Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock Studios. For those of you who missed out on our E3 coverage, Evolve is an asymmetrical 4 v 1 monster hunting first person shooter. Our takeaway from E3 was that this game was great. It was fun, innovative, and interesting to play in a way that really breaks the current shooter mold. Now that it has released in full we can honestly say that its still great, and playing the game feels a lot like it did at E3. Theres just more of it now.
