Review: Assassin's Creed Syndicate: The Last Maharaja | Destructoid

DTOID: With Ubisoft's confirmation that it won't be developing a core Assassin's Creed game in 2016, we're left with something of a lull. Sure, this year still has India, Russia, Initiates, and a movie, but that Assassin's Creed isn't the same kind of Assassin's Creed. For those who have an itch for a very particular type of gameplay, it'll go unscratched.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate's Last Maharaja DLC Turns Into A Royal Punch-up

OX: In the latest of Assassin's Creed Syndicate's DLC packs, The Last Maharaja, you'll be rubbing shoulders with Indian royalty. Duleep Singh really was the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire and good mates with Queen Victoria, which is why you find him hanging around in Buckingham Palace gardens. Not quite as much fun as hunting down a supernatural Jack the Ripper, but interesting nonetheless.

The developer not only has to craft compelling stories for both Evie and Jacob, but also unique play styles that fit the nuances of each twin.In a recent hands-on demo, I got the chance to play as the sister, whose approach is vastly different from her brother's. Assassin's Creed Syndicate's Female Hero Not Response to Unity's Gender Controversy, Says Ubisoft E3 2015

The inclusion of a female protagonist in Assassin's Creed Syndicate is not simply a reaction the series' controversial history with the subject, according to senior members of the game's development team.In 2014, Assassin's Creed Unity's technical director James Therien said introducing a female character would have doubled the work on animations, costumes, and other things. In light of the underrepresentation of females across the industry, the statements garnered a great deal of criticism, especially since the game featured four-player co-op, where the option was most noticeably absent. The discussion…

E3 2015: Has Assassin's Creed Finally Hit a Wall with Assassin's Creed Syndicate? E3 2015

Most (but not all) installments of Assassin's Creed represent another chronological leap forward for the series. The upcoming Assassin's Creed Syndicate takes place in 1868 London as the industrial revolution nears its end. Horse-drawn carriages may still fill the streets, but the world is charging towards a future represented by the city's speeding locomotives, and with new technology comes new struggles, as factions and their leaders battle to remain relevant in a changing political landscape. There's an irony, then, in an annualized series like Assassin's Creed, which simply cannot keep pace…
